Getting a stereo mini system from USA

Hello all,

I'm currently in the US and planning on buying a stereo mini system for my room. I'm either planning on buying the Onkyo CS515 or Denon DM-37. Firstly, have any of you listened to such mini systems? This will be used in a small room for music only.

Secondly, since this is my first time abroad, I've no idea as to how to get this to India. It's $400 and weighs around 12kg I think. I know a bunch of people here have brought stuff from abroad, so could you please give me any suggestions that would help me get this?

Travel;
Go Site Seeing
Visit Night Clubs

so on and so forth;
Do not 'waste' your time 'shopping'

Things like this you can get in India.

You may spend 5 to 7 K more.
It is worth the extra money.
No 'carrying' hassle & 'no customs issues'
When on vacation - just enjoy & get 'software'
That is what you need to get from USA - not Hard Ware.
We need good CD's that India does not sell.

wholeheartedly agree with Bhagwan. for the sub 1000USD items getting it from abroad is not worth the hassle/haggle with customs. get CDs. go to Frys/Circuit city and freak out on the Electronics.

if you do get it for USD 400 and have a receipt then you need to pay 30% X(USD450 - INR12K)as duty.

yeah jeetu...just enjoy ur trip...get loads of music...

btw...where r u in US? there r a few really good music stores where u can get real gems...

regarding the system...if u r looking for a mini...there's a Pioneer system available in India that is really good...sells for around 30K (not sure)...

Heh heh heh! Guys, thanks so much for your suggestions. I did really ponder over whether it's gonna be worth it or not. Just before coming here, I happened to visit Profx and they were quoting 33k for DM-33, which is like 3 or 4 years old! Then I came across DM37 over here and really liked it. It's like half the price at around 17k here. I think I'd better nevermind then. Better off buying some nice small gadgets I guess!

I'm in Pennsylvania and there are a bunch of music stores near where I'm staying. Think I'll just go and get myself some good music.
