Guys, see my reply post above. Manek, IMO you are correct - it's not much different for single-drivers (& I'm guessing it'll not be different for horns either). [Beitrag von bombaywalla am 14. Okt 2009, 19:09 bearbeitet] |

Really informative discussion ![]() ![]() Regarding the question on High sensitivity of speakers, my understanding is that the 1st Watt is extremely critical..thats were a lot of the midrange lies and I am not sure if the 1st watt of a 10W amp Vs a 1st Watt of a 100Watt amp will retain the same quality (assuming both are good and in a similiar comparison range) and if they do the increase in cost would be really exponential.( B'walla you had also hinted at iit in one of your earlier post) So given the extra amount of $$ a higher power amp would cost, in the end it would be about what one is willing to compromise extra power for headroom vs thet extra resolution in the midrange..OR pay more $$$$ |

If the quality of the design is identical for two amplifiers with differing power, then the higher powered may sound better. More ease, headroom for dynamics etc…. But therein lies the problem. Creating high power amplifiers while retaining superior design is a very expensive proposition. Hence people with high sensitivity speakers are better off with a lesser powered amp with superior design for the same money. Nelson pass’s first watt amplifiers comes to mind here. If budget is not an issue, the sky is limit. But this is almost never the case. |
