what is best for music, i have heard that in receivers you don't get pure stereo cause the sound is compressed and passes through a dsp. were as in an integrated amp you have a pure stereo, the imaging is better and the soundstage is also better, comments..........pls ojoi |

Ojoi, What you've heard is right. For pure stereo music go for Intergrated Amp or better still Preamp + Power Amp Regards Sanjay |

In the end it depends on your budget. There do exist surround reveivers who do good stereo..but not as good as a stereo receiver in that budget but much better than the entry level NADs/Rotels, hence does not work out as cost effective. there is also an Option of having a Surround Pre-amp alon with a 2 channnel Power Amp for the stereo and a 3/5 Channel power amp for the rest of the surround speakers. But in the end it depends on your budget.

ojoi, I believe there are receivers which have separate discrete circuits for stereo mode as well. Some high end ones do stereo very well. But then again its best to go in with a stereo amp for stereo reproduction. Some do go in for av receivers as they dont want to duplicate amps for stereo and movies and buy an amp whci does both decently but then it depends on the priorities of that particular individual. manek. |

AV receivers and stereo amps are worls apart and it depends upon the individual. Good Stereo amps are more expensive than AV receivers. |
