AV Expo 2005 just finished here on 30 January

The outstanding were:

1. The Soundsmiths
Cayin tube amps, Cayin solid state, McComarck Amps, Rega CDPs (Planet & Jupiter), Dali & Dynaudio spks
I heard the tube amps for the first time (or let me say ages after the good old radios). The combo of Rega CDP, Cayin Tubes & Dali / Dynaudio was just mesmerising.

2. Riviera
Mirage speakers with Krell amps were good. But I don't know why they were using a DVD player as a source for even audio CDs. They also played another set of Mirage with "Yamaha" AVR - well, they guy himself was apologetic.

3. Anthony Gallo
Too much style, too much thump and too much tinkle - played through Parasound DVD & AVR

4. Sharada Pro-Acoutics
Did not put the Marantz line for demo instead they displayed their car Scorpior custom fitted with all the gizmo & frilly car audio systems. I found it outlandish.

5. And to complete the list there were Onkyo, Yamaha, Sonodyne, Jamo, Bose, Philips, Pioneer, etc. etc. - well nothing to write home about

The Crowd
> 90 % - thrilled by frills 5.1 and soooooooooooooooo much POWER per channel - were there to "see" the exhibition
< 10 % - minority were there to "hear"

To each, his own !

Hi doc,

you r fortunate to see 10% crowd there to listen

and 90% hoohaaing about outputs...huh i was almost beaten up when I was in a pub and was talking to my friend about the music there and i made a point that the total output would be around 150 watts rms and since it's a closed environment and many speakers placed it sounded very loud..and some metal music freak pounced into the conversation and argued that the music was blasted at 5000 watts rms . I convinced him that amount of power would leave his panties full of shit in closed place like a pub and he would,..... he started to argue and more lunatics suuported him...ohhh and some girls rendered their support as well with their usual no brain to mouth connection talk

..huhuh 'lil knowledge is always dangerous' and people with lil knowledge are much more dangerous.

I later realised i was in a pub to gulp beer and I stuck to my original plan......gulp

I know what you mean....people are so convinced that their tiny winy component systems sony/panasonic/samsung etc dish out 2000 watts of power in their homes, they cant begin to understand why a pub should not have double or even three times that amount of power when their heards are turning numb with the alchohol and the shitty sound !

This is what i do, I dont try and talk audio with anyone who is not into hi-fi, especially those low end component system owners I mentioned above. If you do then you dont learn anything and you are considered a fool...so I put up and shut up and look for forum like this to have a decent conversation.
