Hi, Is it possible to get a 220V/50Hz to 120V/60Hz converter. I am able to only find a step down converter that converts 220V/50 Hz to 110V/50Hz. i am not able to get the cycles/frequency also converted. Any suggestions on where to get such a converter from, Delhi/Chennai/Bangalore please. I need it for using with my A/V receiver ( A Pioneer D914-K). Thanks in advance Regards Swami |

Hi Swami I faced the same problem when I moved to Bangalore from oveseas. Luckily I was able to buy a 1000 watts transformer doing both step up and step down. Having said that you really need a step down don't you. Don't worry about the cycle. Its immaterial in the case of the AV receiver. The other thing is that FM frequency bands are made differently for different countries. IN my case I can receive some channels but not all...There is a big technical explanation here which I am not gettiung into, but for all practical purposes a step down should be fine. Arijeet |

Dear Arijeet, If you were refering to Swami post of "I am not able to get the cycles/freuency also converted" ...I feel the reference was to converting the transformer frequency from 50 Hz to 60Hz and not about Frequency Modulation of the air waves ! Dear Swami, Any Transformer manufacturer would be able to help you out as to a step down transformer. You need to decide if you want an E.I. core or Toridal (Donut) or R core transformers. EI are the least efficient then comes Toridial & finally R core. Cost wise EI core is the cheapest. Please make sure you overate the current ratings as most transformer manufacturers don't keep up to the prescribed ratings in terms of current load & insulation specifications. Regards, Junia. |

Hi Junia I appreciate the difference. The FM issue was a "side issue" that I mentioned. What I was trying to say is that for purposes of amplification (Swami has a Pioner AVR) a step down transformer would do the trick adequately and the frequency/AC cycle is not relevant. Cheers Arijeet |
