help needed - floorstanding speaker

Hi,

I just made a custom notebook for myself and want to use it as a stereo sound system for quiet listening and parties as well. I am mainly going to use it for music.

Basically i want a stereo sound setup

with 2 floorstanding speakers

with a fast sub (if its needed)

And

a good sound card (if needed, i have a pcmcia slot but its already used, so usb is only option) + Amplifier. I haven't installed a good sound card yet, there is one average stereo sound card built-in, i am planning to buy a good sound card like creative nx2 usb, is it really needed, or adding a good amp would be enough?

Or A/V Reciever

I am not exactly an audiophile but i can recognize what speakers are good, or bad..

I am a student with a budget of 700$, in jersey city.

Room size is approx 20 X 30 ft, probably a bit bigger

For now i would like to keep it as 2 or 2.1 speaker but may add more speakers later on.

Any help would be appreciated.

i saw onkyo is also giving HT570 refurbished for 149, including shipping, what about that, is it any good?

Hello Sam,
are u looking only for a pair of speakers or are u looking for an amplifier too.

Sam stay away from refurbished speakers....electronics maybe u can have a go but not speakers....
besides the Onkyo which u have pointed out is no good for a room size of 20X30!
IMHO, i'd go for a kit from adire audio(since u are looking to add a sub sometime later)..

Hi,

Thanx Ben!!

I have just made a laptop with a sound card builtin on motherboard, its has a dvd writer. I did not buy anything related to sound, i have to buy all the things needed, including speakers, sub, power supplies, cables, etc.

What do you suggest, KIT261 is out of my range. I can up to 900 max. in which i have to buy everything, including shipping.

I would then suggest that u try axiom audio or Athena technologies.
Axiom has a trial period scheme which lasts for 30 days..if u are not happy..u can return the speakers..

Axiom audio has quite a following and they only have factory direct which is a kind of a good thiing in a way..
