Hi everybody!
I would like to ask for an advice: Which AV receiver primarily have better sound and secondary better AV options, between: Pioneer VSX-417, Yamaha RX-V361, Yamaha RX-461, Denon AVR-1508 or Marantz SR3001. Which loudspeakers for each receiver brand better sounds, which is better "paired" with, between: Mordaunt Short, Wharfedale, B&W, Infinity, JBL, Canton, Bose brands. I will buy at first time just two speakers and after will upgrade to home cinema. Primarily I'm listening a music, rock primarily. First two receivers are twice cheaper than the rest. Are the rest so much better than the first two (sound, components, AV possibilities..)?
Thank you very much in advance.

Hi!

For speakers, it´s more or less common sense in this forum that you should avoid BOSE for certain reasons, e.g. quality compared to price. Everything else will depend on your own taste of sound, there are no real "no-go" speaker-receiver-combinations to my knowledge.

The smaller Marantz-AVRs are said to be a little flat-sounding, kind of boring (but a good choice for stereo to some). Denon is to be more dynamic and producing far more deep-bass. Yamaha is sometimes considered to be a little harsh in the upper frequencies. I don´t know anything about the Pinoeer, but have you given Onkyo a thought? They are big these days with their newest line of AVRs.

Your personal taste, budget and your needs concerning video-capabilities (HDMI) will determin a choice only you can make in the end.
Try to listen to different speakers, the sound of the AVRs is secondary to that IMHO

hi mike,

excuse me my, my english not perfect - nontheless i´ll give it a try.

first of all it´s important to know more details about about your room (size etc) and the ammount of money you´re planing to spend.

another question is, if it would be very senseful to buy a surround receiver rather then buying stereo amplifyer regarding the fact that you primarily listen to music.

surround is more likely to be used for movies.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advises.
My budget is about 1000 Euro, and my living room is about 30 m2 with open space to a kitchen and dining room of additional 25 m2.
You are right about AV receivers but here the price for stereo Marantz SR 4021 receiver 400 Euro is even bigger than the surround one - SR 3001, about 350. Denon AVR 1508 costs some 400 Euro. For that reason I would start with stereo speaker system, and later add the rest. I've listened Marantz SR 3001 and pair of MS 904 for front, pair of MS 902, rear, 905 center and sub JBL e150. It was soft sound, more for classic or jazz, maybe not for rock musis. The sound was something, as "funnystuff" said "flat", not quite dynamic sounded. I'll try Onkyo, but think here they have not the latest models:505, 605...Know that 605 is a winning model, but the price would be too high, here some 700 Euro. Will be no rest for a speakers...
I'll try to listen a different speakers, which should have a good bass too, dynamic sound, for rock music. What does it means "IMHO" ?
Thank you in advance.

Where exactly do you live? In Germany you'll get the 705 for 700 EUZ.

Oh, that's just an old times prejudice. They've become much more relaxed within the last generations. My RX-V650 (2k4) performs in untroubled harmony with Canton speakers, which are considered to sound harsh, too.

Forget Pearl Harbour, try some japs!

I'm in Macedonia, in the capital Skopje.
Just called the shop, no Onkyo importing anymore :-(
So, there is Yamaha RXV 461 for 300 Euro, Pinoneer VSX 417 for 200 Euro, and the rest I've mentioned.
Maybe is better first to buy receiver in one shop, and after go with it to another for a speakers...
Thanks anyway.

If you buy one complete package from the same retailer, maybe you can get a nice discount. But of course, you should still compare
