Does anyone on the forum own a Grado SR-60 headphone. I am considering importing it from the US. What's the take on it? Is it really the best among the entry-level headphones? Or does Sennheiser have better models? One factor that tilts me towards the Grado is that they are sensitive and don't require a headphone amplifier. |

Hi Buddy, I have a Grado Headphone though not SR-60, but its MS-1. The sound characteristics are very similar in all Grado line-ups so I can guess how SR-60 would sound. If you are more into Rock/Pop/Acoustics/Hip-hop sound then a SR-60 would be one of the best option. But if you are into softer and warmer sound like the Jazz, Classical kinds then would recommend to go for Sennheiser HD-280 Pro. Basically Grados are Bright and punchy sounding Cans. They do reveal a lot of details in the sound but do it with a Flame. They dont have a good soundstage/headstage so you would mostly find the sound being limited within the two cans rather than extending beyond (which Sennheiser can do well i.e Soundstaging). The Sennheiser model I have mentioned is priced around the same as SR-60, I think its $70. So do consider these points. If you want a Fun filled headphone with a lot of Punch + Details + Brightness + High Sensitivity - Soundstage - Comfort (for long hours) then its Grado. Else if you want a Balanced Headphone + Good Sound Stage + Good Comfort + Darker sound - Grado Fun - High Sensitivity (though it can be driven decently with a portable source) then its Sennheiser HD280 Pro. One more thing about the HD280 Pro, its frequency extension on the extreme ends is not as good as the Grado. So you may find its sound a bit rolled off in the extremes (both low and high freq) One more thing about the Grados, they reproduce the Guitar Sooooooooooooooooo well....its really hard to beat. What do you think ? ![]() [Beitrag von abhi.pani am 31. Mrz 2006, 09:20 bearbeitet] |

Thanks Abhi. I remember comparing the Senn HD600 with the Grado RS1. The Senn was the better option with much cleaner and a more balanced sound. I never knew that Senns were also available at low price points. The HD280 Pro is worth considering. Say I enjoy the guitar play by Mark Knopfler, Bruce Springsteen, and sometimes Santana. When you say that the Grado does a good job on the guitar, do you mean that it is fast? If the Grados are bright, can one listen to Hindi music on them? |

Hey Buddy, If you are into Mark Knofler and Bruce Springsten then stick to Grado. They are really fast and reproduce Mark knofler's voice and Guitar very very well. You cant remove the headphone until you are finished with the track. And when I say bright, I mean on the brighter side not really Harsh. Hindi Music is no problem to them. The trick is to have a warmer source and good quality recording....then GRADO ROCKS!!! |

Good quality recording: That should not be a problem for Diana Krall, Norah, Kenny G. They are certainly recorded properly with good dynamics and very little noise or harshness. Say I wonder how the autorickshaw songs will sound on a Grado ![]() ![]() |

I am afraid but Diana Krall and Norah would sound better on a Sennheiser. |
