Hi Guys, I just bought an active sub to partner my standmounts. Turns out the sansui integrated amp does not have a pre out. I got a few options to integrate the sub, use speaker level inputs on the sub but the amp does not have enough juiceand the sub would be put in passive mode. Get an external active crossover and split the signal to the amplifier and the subwoofer seperately. The subwoofer has speaker level ins and outs, RCA l/R inputs and an LFE input. Kindly post your recommendations. So far the active crossovers i have come up with are the ![]() ![]() ![]() please let me know if i have overlooked any other option(cheaper) and make ur recommendations. Thanks, -Saachi |

cheaper (and better) option might be to sell it and buy another int amp ;). there is another classic amp for sale ![]() or you sell the sub and buy one with high level (speaker level) inputs. crossover is really an unecesary extra component in the chain..unless you want to also use it to relieve the speakers of lower bass and give it exclusively to the sub. in that case Behringer is a pretty good option, especially if you can get it used. |

That's waay too much money to spend on an amp for me right now. This sub has high level inputs...but that means that the little sansui has to power the subwoofer driver. Which it just would not do a good job of. The idea is to cutoff the freq at around 80Hz and feed it exclusively to the sub while the rest of the freq range would be managed by the stand mounts. |

have you tried it ? Subs like REL/MJ accoustics have a very high impedance load which takes the minutest of current from the speaker output and then filters it for the HF content. (ie the sub amp still drives the driver..it is not driven by the int amp). I would be very surprised if the Deftech is any different. eg my int amp is passive and if i use an RCA out the speakervolume reduces when the subis on but with speaker level inputs it makes no difference. so you may not need it.. hang on a sec..let me see if i got this right.. do you mean to say that the def tech amp would actually power the bookshelves? The connection would be source-amp- sub- bookshelves but the amp on the sub would power the woofer driver while the integrated amp would actually power the bookshelves?...i think i screwed up there.. could you please elaborate and walk me through it. |

well..this is the way my sub is set up. but this in the REL/MJ where the sub is supposed to be in parallel to the speakers 1. Connect the speakers to the in amp terminals 2.connect the high level teminals of the sub into the same Int amp terminals the speakers are fully driven by the int amp the Subs am takes a very low current input from the same signal being fed to the speakers, Amplifies it and then drives its driver. I am not sure how the deftech does it so you will neeed to refer to the manual in case it is in Series, then it has a speaker IN and Speaker OUT (ie Low pass AND High Pass filter) then the above will not work. in that case the SUB will be connected to the Int AMP and the Speakers to the Speaker OUT of the SUB but even then the sub will not be passive, but will be active. |

ok,...got it... this is what the brochure says.. which means i think the same setup as yours is possible with the deftech. "The ProSub 100TL includes continuously variable low-pass filter (40-150Hz) plus 5-way gold-plated speaker level inputs and outputs, low-level RCA inputs (including direct LFE sub-in), overdrive protection and auto on/off. In addition, built-in speaker level outputs incorporate a high-pass crossover for perfect blending." |

DEf tech has great support and thus i promptly sent them an email. Here's the reply.
Guess that solves my problem ..not to mention save a me a few bucks. I think i will be going with option 2 as clearly the speakers seem to bottom out at higher volumes. |

Hey, How good is this pro sub 100TL ? Is this available in India ? Will they compete with subs from SVS, HSU etc.. in the US ? A friend is looking for a sub 1k$ sub. I was wondering. |

Savyasachi, The Sansui amp has a Tape Rec out which is the same level as the input source level. Why cant it be hooked onto the low level inputs of the Sub ? |

hmm but tape out bypasses the pre amp. so everytime you change the volume, you need to adjust the sub separately which would be difficult. it should either be the pre out OR the speaker out. |

In that case he could use the headphone out and connect it to low level input of the sub. |

yeah. my friend (even arj in his earlier post) pointed that out to me when I suggested that.
i havwn't heard the SVS or the HSU research, but they donot have the connectivity options as that of the deftech i think...at least the SVS. I came across a couple of posts suggesting that the SVS eats the DEftech for breakfast. Then again, taht why Def tech have their supercube series which are a whole new ballgame (supercube 2 might be a very good choice). BUt for sure he would not be disappointed with the Prosub100TL. Everyone who has heard the sub at my place (abhi pani, reignofchaos, ALS, Arasu..) have all been impressed by the little monster. The sub that i liked better than the def tech was probably the Klipsch reference 12 incher. THe audiopeople guys were using 2 of them with a carver bass management system in a HT demo room...mesmerizing. |

the klipsch has a fantastic slam factor but not really the most articulate of subs. the best way to check that is to feed the full signal at the max setting of the filter and check out how it sounds..if you hear music it is articulate..and if you hear thumps put it for HT ! |

that might be true because they were part of a THX HT setup. Guess would have to listen to one of them(instead of 2) in a stereo setup to make any kind of distinction between the two brands. [Beitrag von Savyasaachi am 28. Feb 2008, 23:28 bearbeitet] |

Thanks. This guy is planning to use it with his HT setup. Not too particular about speed, articulation. As long as it creates decent extended bass without booming, it will work for him. Will let him know. |
