hey prithvi, can u help me with toeing in my speakers. what i want to know is this, myspeakers are almost 6.5 feet apart (measured between the center of the baffles) and my listening spot is usually 9 to 10 feet away. now according to the equilateral triangle rule my listening spot has to be within the tip of the triangle that is, within 7 feet from either speaker. so at what anlge do u achieve this ideal position and at what angle can i get the same result by sitting almost 9 -10 feet from each speaker. thaks Ben |

Benks, Experimentation is the name of the game, there are no hard and fast rules. It all boils down to your room, but IMHO, an equilateral triangle doesn’t always work out to be the best option. Most speaker manufacturers recommend that the distance between the listener and the speakers should be somewhat more than the distance between the speakers. So, if you have the speakers 6.5 ft apart, which is quite normal, then your current distance of around 9 ft should be okay. The basics of toeing in are somewhat thus. If you have the speakers firing straight ahead, you will probably get the most expansive soundstage, but imaging will not be at its best. As you turn them inwards, you will find the imaging improving but the soundstage getting restricted. You will have to play around to find out what sounds best to you. I find I am most comfortable with the speakers crossing a wee bit behind my ears, the combination of imaging and soundstaging seems just right at this point. But, you must check this out for yourself as this may not work for you, remember, I do have big ears…. ![]() ![]() |

thanks arj, that i really helpful. unfortunately they don't have Wharfedale in their database. besides i think my dad may start building the first and second floors of our house and i have alredy started making plans for a theater and audio specific room. till then i will try to experiment as much as i can. the thing is, as of now there is too much of furniture in the room and it is very difficult for me to let myself go and really experiment. thanks for the tip big ears. BTW how ever can we forget about those wonderfully 'big ears' of urs ![]() ![]() Ben |
