what type of reciever would best suit my wharfedale speakers

I bought a pair of wharfdale diamond 8.4 speakers, because of the amazing price and reputation. I am currently running them on a 20 year old reciever, which is my fathers, until i could afford a new one. I am wondering which type, brand etc... would best compliment the speakers. Your help is wanted and greatly appreciated.

what would you budget be like ?

I have heard the diamonds with a marantz, sony, cambridge audio. I liked the performance of the marantz with the diamonds by far.

I am looking to spend less than 400 american dollars. I am young and dont have too much money so cheap but quality is perfect.

PS- do you remember at all what model number the receiver was?

One more thing, what wattage and other specs would you reccomend for these speakers?

this recvr has been reviewed pretty well locally for both stereo and miltichannel performance.
the best way is to hear it playing with your speakers. No one can really tell you how this recvr will sound with your speakers unless he/she has heard this combo.
