sherwood amp, any opinions?

Now that is a name that I have not heard in the longest time.Is Sherwood available in India now ?

Also if you could indicate a budget and the kind of music that you most often listen to, the guys here can give you some suggestions.

whatz the cost of it ?
and what speakers are you setting it up with ?

Sherwood to my mind is available thru Soundsmiths in Bombay i think.

I remember reading that sherwood as brand is now owned by an american consumer retail chain(wal mart ??? maybe someone else) and they have these amps made in the east and label them sherwood, mostly av recvrs.

I may be very wrong...but remember reading somewhere....I cant quite remember where and what....but it will come to me eventually

Sherwood is the name on Electronics made by Quadral. Nothing special, though. Why don't you take some stuff from Technics or Sony?

Oh, well- i guess i have more info any yet am asking the questions.
Sherwood is available with some retailers in Chennai at ~ 16k for a new 2 channel amp.
I have the option of purchasing a sherwood amp with some telome speakers second hand (1 year old) for about 60% that price. Dont know the model in either case.
Sherwood seems to be doing ok - but more on the HT front http://www.sherwoodusa.com/about.html.
Also contemplating a denon PMA380 with JBL ctrl5 bookshelves (3 yr old). Am going totally on the 2nd hand route to reduce the risk of this being my first system - and given the limited auditioning options in most dealerships.
Coming back to the point - hows sherwood in stereo?

I would seriousely suggest you put in another 2k and go for a NAD C320 bee. I have had some very bad experiences with mass market stereo amplifiers.Especially the japanese ones. (pioneer, kenwood etc..). I think the sherwood would also fall in the same catagory. The specifications of these doesn't mean anything. It is the design that matters. I have a fairly difficult load speaker and I had a pioneer 70watt/channel amp which used to clip with the speaker. I tried different higher powered amps by similar japanese companies with the same result.Prithvi then suggested the Nad c320bee which is rated at 50watts per channel and I tried it at home. Man ! It knocked the knickers off any amp I tried. It never clips, very good control over the woofer and very musical.I finally bought a C350 because I got a good deal on it but I would have been happy either way. I would suggest you stay clear off neon bulb brands.

I absolutly agree to square_wave about the performance of the NAD C320. But the cost of it is 21k here in Bangaore.
