WANTED: Int. Stereo Amplifier (Mumbai) - SOLD!

(Warning: tight budget ahead!)

I am looking to buy a used Integrated Stereo Amplifier rated at around 50WPC @ 8 Ohms (+ power cable, remote :.). Brand names such as NAD, Cambridge Audio, Rotel, Marantz (I can dream, can't I?) preferred. Do not need a phono stage but a protection circuit would be welcome.

Or, to put it another way, I need a Stereo Amp that can drive a budget floorstander like a Wharfedale Diamond 9.5, Mordaunt Short 906i and so on without breaking a sweat. I listen at low to moderate volume, never Sarvajanik-Ganapati-mandals-would-be-jealous high.

And now for the comic relief...

Budget: INR 10,000 - 12,000.

Mumbai based sellers preferred as I do not wish to risk shipping an irreplaceable item

While I realise I cannot expect the latest models, I would like to avoid vintage amps and pre-power combos.

You might want to check out Norge.you should be easily able to get the top of the line model, well within your budget.

That is ofcourse,if you are not too fussed about a desi brand

Thanks, Krish. I will definitely add this one to my list. Not fussy about Indian brands at all - I auditioned Sonodyne speakers last year and liked them. And Norge has always been held in great esteem by those I have spoken to.

Nice reccomendation. Norge Gold 1000 (I dont remember the model number exactly but its something like that) is priced around 11k, available in Mumbai, with active demo....and most importantly competes and beats many imported amps within 25k.....do give them a try.

Another amp within the same price which you may like is the Yamaha AX-496. See if you like it...it would definitely drive your speakers well...tonality is something you would need to audition and decide.

Its much better to try these amps first (extensive audition recommended) before looking at used amps (priced around 20-25k).

My quest for the right amplifier may be at an end. I just had a discussion with FX Entertainment and they have made a very good offer on:
A)

Cambridge Audio 540A V2 Stereo Amplifier
B)

Mordaunt Short 904i Floorstanding Speakers
The above combination for just shy of 30,000. Is that a sweet deal or what?

If this goes through I will finally and at long last be a part of the Stereo club. Oh, how long I've waited.

Please let me know your impressions on the products mentioned. I hope you approve of my choices. Thanks.

they both are great pieces of equipments but not sure if their characters would gel...do give them a good listen together...

I've not heard them together but MS was slightly laid back when I auditioned with Marantz...

Thanks soulforged, I will keep that in mind. I assumed they would go together well as they are sister companies and are often bundled together or recommended as such. But you are right, must trust only my ears.

A very big thank you to all who made offers and offered advice. It is appreciated as always.

I have now concluded my purchase and am ecstatic to finally have "listenable" equipment. I have purchased:
Cambridge Audio Azur 540A Version 2 Amplifier
Mordaunt Short 906i Floorstanding Speakers

Yet to hear them in my home as installation is tomorrow.
