HDD BASED PLAYBACK SYSTEM FOR SALE

My very close friend and Audio mentor (since 1973 !) Mr Sushil Anand has on Sale a Unique CD Drive + DAC Combo from ZERO ONE. This has been a demo unit, and is put up for sale at a reduced price.

The Replay System consits of the Ti48 Upsampling Archival CD Transport + Ar38 Upsampling Digital-to-Analogue Converter. The 2 are interconnected via a (custom) I2S interface (the Ideal Interface for a DAC).

The Ti48 CD Transport reads CDs and outputs the digital data to any outboard digital-to-analogue converter (DAC).

VARIABLE UPSAMPLING
It also has a software-enabled upsampling processor built-in that allows users to choose the sampling frequency and the digital filter to be set.

When connected to Zero One DACs using our custom I2S link , the sampling frequency could be set at various rate (e.g. 48k,176.4k) up to a maximum of 192khz.

If the S/PDIF (coaxial) link is used, the Ti48 can transfer data up to a maximum sampling rate of 96khz due to the limitations of the S/PDIF standard. Even if you already own a high end upsampling 24/96 DAC, you will find that the upsampled data from the Ti48 will help to extract the highest level of performance from your DAC.

MULTIPLE NOISE FILTERS
The digital filter algorithms allow you to tailor the sound to your system or room to some degree. There are 3 filter options ranging from "minimal" to "brick wall". In addition, there are various dither options which help to optimise the playback performance.

BUILT IN 2 HDD
This particular unit has been fitted with 2 HDDs (180GB + 360 GB).

LOCALLY STORED DATABASE
The Ti48 can store either an entire CD or selected tracks. These can be organised according to artist or album name . Using these classifications, playlists can be created containing preferred tracks. The Ti48 has a database that recognises the album titles, track and artist names of nearly 2,000,000 CDs. This database can be easily updated with a CD-ROM (available from Zero One).

The Ar38 was designed to match the Ti48 Transport. Using the custom I2S digital connection, the pair functions as a high-end CD player but with the added benefits that the separation of the transport and DAC sections convey.

24 BIT UPSAMPLING DAC
As a standalone product however, the Ar38SE is itself a high quality audiophile DAC with upsampling capabilities to 24 bits/96khz.

PASSIVE FILTER AND ZERO FEEDBACK ANALOG
In designing the Ar38, the aim was to create the most natural sounding digital audio component possible with today's technology. Therefore, the Ar38 only uses a passive second-order filter and discrete Class A analogue stages. Upsampling CD data results in higher bandwidth of the converted data. This allows the use of a gentle second order filter, following the digital section, to remove most of the ultra-sonic hash (a normal result of the digital-to-analogue conversion) from the analogue output. The use of such a low order filter reduces phase changes and filter-related ringing of the signal.

The entire analogue stage, including the output section, is implemented with a single-ended, Class A, discrete circuit operated without feedback loops. The whole design is DC-coupled, a feature very seldom found in single-ended designs.

The SE model differs from the original Ar38 by the addition of a separate power supply for the digital section. (The demo unit offered for sale is not the SE version ).

24/192 OPERATION
When connected to the Ti48 transport, using its custom I2S link, the data can be upsampled in the Ti48 to 24 bits/192khz and then transmitted directly to the Ar38SE's DAC chips, thereby ensuring that interface jitter is negligible.

Other digital sources connected to the Ar38 using the S/PDIF (coaxial) link will be upsampled to 24 bits/96khz.
