Hi guys,

Apologies for writing in English; my spoken German is not bad and I will understand any reply in that language.

Last week I bit the bullet and, after a long search and many demos, bought the Accuphase E 370 amp. It comes as an upgrade to my current system which includes also Audio Analogue Maestro II CD, a Teac UD 501 DAC playing from Synology NAS,and loudspeakers B&W CM9 (first generation). The Accuphase E370 replaced my previous amp Audio Analogue Maestro Settanta which was a fine machine but quite underpowered. My next step would be to replace the Teac DAC with a DAC 50 module for the Accuphase (it is currently unavailable). The CD is quite fine but may also go in the future. The Accuphase is connected to the CD and DAC with XLR cables. The currently used speaker cable is Chord Epic.

Needless to say, the Accuphase is an absolutely incredible machine but it is painfully obvious that it far outclasses the B&W CM9s. This is why I am looking in principle for new loudspeakers to match it. I listen to really all types of music but mainly vocals (e.g. Diana Krall), heavy metal, hard rock, new wave, and pop (yes, I know it's a weird mixture ). The room is approximately 40 square meters but I do not have a lot of space where the speakers are placed. This is why I am looking at smaller speakers (not taller than 110 cm), either floorstanders or standmounters. If they are pretty and available in walnut finish, so much the better (higher WAF). So which speakers would you recommend as possible partners for the Accuphase? I had in mind ATC SCM 40 and the new Q Acoustics Concept 500. Problem is that ATC does not have a distributor in Austria where I am based. I may be able to buy them in the neighbouring countries. I should be able to demo the amp with Q Acoustics soon. I was also thinking about some Dynaudio models (was quite impressed by their sound in the reseant amp search) and even some Focals. Harbeth is often recommended as a good Accuphase match but the design is, well, archaic. I know that it is tough to make a decision without demoing but it may be very hard to get speakers to home or the amp to the studio to demo. My budget is up to 6000 Euro.

Also, which cable do you think will fit this amp/speaker combo? I am tempted to experiment with a new cable for the B&W CM9s but I am almost convinced this will not improve current situation much.

Thanks a lot for any advice and thoughts!

Hi, the best sound result I have done with a LS 1602. That's what it takes to get cheap already.

Hi, I don't mean to be harsh, but speakers match with a room and taste, not with an amplifier. The Accu should really be able to cope with almost any speaker.
As far as cable goes: how should one strip of copper or silver be better then another? Spend that money on music.

Thanks for your replies, guys. @Hifrido: I think you are right about the cables but I do think that there is such thing as a synergy between amp and speakers. And, of course, you are absolutely correct about the room and taste factor. The problem is that I listen at quite low volumes and the B&Ws sound quite lifeless at low levels. The sound is very nice when I crank them up but then the neighbours and my family start revolting In any case, I guess it is a matter of experimentation with the speakers. Until now I have always had floorstanders. Maybe I should take a look at standmounters this time...

You might be better served by the Der Accuphase Stammtisch und Fan Thread. They also have an extensive survey on Welche Accuphase-Verstärker betreibt Ihr an welchen Lautsprechern?.
Some of these guys have also their specific preference for cables.

I recommend you the Dynaudio Contour 30. A bit above of your price range but you should give them a try.
They sound very natural, no colorization but nonetheless very emotional. Since it is a well known brand you should easily be able to find a dealer in your area for a listening session. Last but not least they are available in a walnut finish...
