Which portable cd-system?

If its for personal listning, consider an mp3 player.

iRiver & iPods provide very good sound quality for music on the go...

I feel the best option is to buy a portable CD walkman and buy speakers separately. Some options for speakers are JBL on tour and Creative travelsound or even philips shoqbox. This will serve both as portable player as well as a jukebox. They will serve as a basic system which is ideal for travel.
If you need louder sound, boombox is better. Check out the cambridge soundworks ones too.

The lack of responses is due to lack of interest in mini-combos (boom-boxes) on this forum. People would want to help out but wouldn’t really know what to recommend. I would suggest you go have listen to quite a few from Jvc, pioneer, Denon etc…and decide yourself. Do not bother much on the tech specs as most will be useless marketing jargon. Look for something that plays clean and undistorted at your desired volume level.

From what I have researched in the last few months about portable players.......the NEW AGE portable CD players (Discman) are CRAP CRAP CRAP !!!!. An iPod beats them inside out hollow. Just see that the encoding bit-rate and the software used to encode are good ones. I havent come across a single portable CDP which has got even an average review in the Head-fi.com (One of the best sites for portable audio reviews). So better stick to a good mp3 player. There is no point spending first on a Crapy CDP and then keep on buying CDs and finally get Bull-shit sound.
Instead stick to an iPod and get music for free at your will with quality which is atleast three times better than a Portable CDP...
