Thanks for your suggestions dear friends.

Kamal Ji,
Though I am considering those diy stands but I am not very sure about their portability/movability. I am planning to visit a Granite/Marble cutting shop and ask them if they can help me build this, the pros and the cons in the long run etc etc. In the mean time I am also exploring the more flexible but expensive option

Hi Manek,
You are lucky to get what you exactly wanted in terms of sound as well as aesthetics...I am still struggling on the Aesthetics part. Jochen had visited my place today and he liked the Murthy's stands a lot. He even liked the BM6 over the audience52 any day. We had some good time comparing speakers, ICs, cables and ofcourse your power cord which I liked
As for the stands I am trying to see if a similar veneering job can be done on the murthy's stands, as it has been done on the Cadence stands. I am trying to look for a carpenter who can have a genuine approach to this. (May be I am being too ambitious )

Jeeves Bhai,
Murthy has given me similar tricks as you have mentioned, once the stands are in place...I will start on those fine tweaks as well.

Hi All,
Would anyone know what the blocks beneath the stands are made of (see earlier picture). I too need to raise the height of my stands. Suggestions welcome. Strictly DIY.

wooden box filled with lead shot or sand ???? Some people use concrete blocks but WAF would come in the way.

spikes on the stands bottom plank ?

Wooden box filled with Granite (Weight) and Sand (Damping) is ideal. this way the stand can also be spiked in..

of course if they (Stands) are heavier than 20 KG then better to place them on the ground directly or on Granite blocks..can be very very dangerous otherwise !

Would not a block of wood do? Have just finished making one sand box. Not sure if I want to make two more? Matble blocks would ring I suppose, although my floor is marble anyhow.

Marble tiles are expensive. I sure would dread putting heavy stands in my Bombay home Can a pyramidal stand (which would be more stable) be used? Any effect on acoustics?

There seem to be varied opinions on marble. Some recommend it as an ideal plinth for tts, others eschew it. Another suggestion I encountered somewhere was that of using carbon blocks. Anyone know what these are and where they could be procured. Carbon rods are available (net info)but I have not been able to locate any carbon blocks.
By the way Neutral, marble is cheaper out here than tiles, so its an economical way of going about things, relatively at any rate.
...but I am hijacking the thread.

Hello all buddies,
Just thought of giving an update on the speakers and the setup. BM6 has now done around 60-70 hours (a bit far from its recommended 200 hours burn-in). Almost every 7-10 hours of burn-in shows up a newer improvement and thats really exciting. Initially I was in a fix whether to keep it or return it but as hours progressed it made its presence felt in a tremendous way. A comparison between BM6 and A52 (after BM6 had done around 40 hours) showed up some radical differences between them. The A52 sounded veiled compared to the BM6 .
The BM6 revealed just so much more. There is an immediacy in the sound that makes it sound a lot more live. It sounds closer to reality (real instruments) than the A52. But all this also makes the speaker a bit forward in character in comparison to the A52 and in fact I discovered that its the laid-back characteristics of the A52 which makes it sound veiled and slow in comparison. Then there is that fast tight and deep bass produced by the BM6 which I would say is miles ahead of the A52 and in fact the best I have heard from any BS speakers till date. When I played a Patricia Barber Gold XRCD of her album "Cafe Blue", I realized that there are bass notes which could NEVER be reproduced by the A52 but were bravely reproduced by the BM6....that was the knock-out punch which helped decide the clear winner.

But with all these advantages there was also a parameter where the BM6 scored less than the A52....While the A52 allowed me to listen to some of the poorest recordings, the BM6 doesnt allow me to do so. They dont make poor recordings sound average. They absolutely bring out whatever is there in your audio chain. This is the first time I am hearing my amp sounding better after warm-up and addition of a thin carpet to my bare floors improving the mids....really these things never showed with the A52. May be this is what you call "NEUTRALITY" .
But then I dont agree with the myths that go around saying "Neutral is boring", "Neutral shouldnt impress" etc etc...IMO if your source is impressive your system should sound impressive and vice-versa. Neutral systems are boring only when the recording has life missing. Otherwise they sound just AMAZING. Its all new to me and I am happy that I am learning while I am enjoying the whole journey.

There is also an update on the stands. As previously mentioned, Mr.Murthy had generously lent me his super-heavy stands to audition for around 2 weeks. Later Jochen also was kind enough to lend me the Cadence stands (demo piece) for a week. Fortunately there was a over-lapping period where I had both the stands together for a week to compare them. Frankly the Cadence stands were out of my budget and Jochen had already clarified that Murthy's stands were awesome and offers great VFM and moreover Cadence stands were too short for my requirements. But but but...there was a surprise waiting for me. I would like to share with all you buddies because it was a total revelation to me and can happen to anyone.
For the first one week that I had my speakers on Murthy's stands, while my wife didnt like the looks of it I thought they match well but look somewhat industrial (slightly intimidating) but was more than manageable going by the absolute VFM. I was not really worried about the looks all that much (at least that is what I thought). I didnt have the Cadence stands that whole week so the speakers were on Murthy's stands all throughout.

Then the following weekend, Jochen arrived with the Cadence stands but confirmed that Murthy's stands offered better value. But then he also offered me to keep the cadence stands for week and do some A/B between them. From then on I had my speakers on the Cadence stands for the next few days.
Now comes the experience that took me by surprise. Though there was hardly any sonic difference between the two stands, I found that while the speakers are on Cadence stands I tend to listen a lot more music than the period when it was on Murthy's stands . With the Cadence stands my listening sessions extended to double the period of my usual listening sessions....also I noted that while the speakers were on Murthy's stands, my listening sessions were actually halved to my usual listening sessions. It literally means I was listening to four times as much music on Cadence stands as I was listening with Murthy's stands. This despite the fact that there was almost no sonic difference I could hear between them. As soon as I discovered this growth, I tried to analyze the reason behind it. And I found that the reason actually lied in the aesthetics. . With the speakers on the Cadence stands there was a warmth created in the environment which gave a warm "listening room" feel and always attracted me to be there and listen more...WOW!!! . While with Murthy's stands it gave a very hard and industrial look and feel to my room which was always driving me out (UNKNOWINGLY!!). The message was loud and clear, if I go with Murthy's stands and 3 months down the line I dont find myself involving in music as often then what do I do !!! Rather spending more and buying a Cadence stands would not only engage me in music more often but also keep my wife happy and my living room beautiful :). But then Cadence stands are too short for my requirement, but Jochen then spoke to Cadence and convinced them to make a stand for me according to my specs (height and base) at a slightly extra cost. I immediately placed the order and Cadence delivered it in 15 days time. I have attached the snapshot of the new stands below. They are doing a wonderful job. I especially find a distinct improvement in image-stability and tightness in bass. Prior to this, I was missing the sharp imaging in BM6 which was rectified as soon as they were on these stands.

Thanks Sachi...yes it took me a while to make a decision.
The custom stands were something that I always fancied but never expected because Mr.Mahendra Dave (the Cadence dealer at Pune) had already denied me any customization on this stand...luckily Jochen was optimistic and took it ahead to the Cadence personnels and they happily took it up. Now Jochen also wants me to get a rack done from Cadence (though they dont make one) using the same wooden and marble top finish for which Jochen is ready to give the design to Cadence...seems exciting ;). But I am taking it slow.

Yes Manek, the pointed end is on the floor and I have to say that these stands are doing a terrific job...as I have already mentioned, I find the imaging to be razor sharp compared to other stands I have tried.

I was about to suggest the same.
The setup looks pretty clean save for the electronics lying on the ground.

Ya, I know I have to do something about them soon...they need something rigid to be kept upon, cant use a fibre table or something . Buying something cheap temporarily doesnt make sense because it will be a wastage of money. So I am just taking a bit of time to buy something really decent which I can live with longer.

hi abhi,

was just wondering if every 7-10 hrs really makes an improvement without any changes in the setup or is it the feel u get after listening to the speakers more and more, might result in liking them even more and end up thinking that you kinda heard some improvements? btw, does dynaudio recommend 200 hrs of burn in? that's quite sometime then..

Hi Voodoo,
I understand your question and I think , I know the answer. If it was just an illusion then the illusion should also have occurred when I had the Audience52 for the first time at my place... . The A52 had attracted me from the word 'go' and remained the same all throughout for the next 6-8 months(till the BM6 arrived). Actually I bought the A52 pre-owned and it was properly broken in so I suppose there was no further audible improvement. Infact out-of-the-box the BM6 sounded so inferior to the A52 that my wife (who is no audiophile) was almost shocked that I have bought them (BM6) . Within a month, they transformed into a beast beating the A52 lef-right....this transformation was quite audible in patches of 7-10 hours of burn-in. I suppose thats not an illusion.....

BTW Dynaudio seriously recommends a burn-in period of 250-300 hours but for my own feel-good factor I wrote 200 hours .
