Installing External Hard Disk

Hi everyone,

I have bought an external 3.5" IDE hard disk casing (USB based) for data transfers between my office and home PC.

I am using the Samsung 80GB HDD (IDE) as the drive for this purposse.

The problem is i am not able to install the proper drivers for it.

I have tried everything that came with the supplied installation CD but it doent work.

My PC recognizes the device as USB mass storage device but thats it. In the driver section of the device it displays "The driver for this device is not properly installed."

My PC (office) config is P3-1.2MHZ, 256MB, 40GB
My PC (home) config is Celeron 533 MHZ, 128MB, 10GB+80GB(planning to use as the external drive).

What could be the problem? please help.

Schaut ab und zu mal vorbei

XP will not need any drivers. But if your pc is showing that a mass storage device is connected then go to my computer and see if the drive is reflected there... as drive D,E or any of the subsequent alphabets depending on how many have been already used up. if it is reflected then all you have to do is start transfering stuff...
another thing.. there is a jumper setting(master or slave) that may have been specified by the casing manufacturers. have you followed it?

It worked. it was the jumper setting was the culprit. Actually when i removed the HDD from my home by change i also removed the jumper. But after putting the jumper on the master pins it worked.
