Hindi DVD-A - Dhoom:2

I was pleasantly surprised to see the first Hindi DVD-A in the music store from movies Dhoom:2 and I instantly bought it. Besides Dhoom:2 it has some bonus tracks like "Kajrare", etc. The recording is in 3 formats:

-MLP 5.1 surround - true DVD-A
-DTS 5.1
-Dolby Digital 5.1

Unfortunately there is no true Stereo DVD-A / MLP.

The quality of performance was NOT impressive. Other than providing "frilly" surround effect, it has done nothing great to the music reproduction. The strengths of the format have not been properly utilized. I have some other DVD-A recordings in which the Stereo sounds great with amazing dynamics.

I did an A-B comparision of the song "Kajrare" on this DVD-A with the same track on CD. I found the latter much better.

I hope that Indian recording industry develops further and keeps in mind the audiophile minority community. But it's certainly a good step forward abd this disc is worth buying for Rs. 299 - just to patronize / experiment.

A pleasant surprise !

However, glad you have mentioned that it does not have 2 channel audio, so i will keep away from buying it ....

The other day my daughter suprised & shocked me by picking up this DVD-A of Zhoom Barabar Zhoom from a music store. I told her that it was a DVD-A and wont play on CDP - she said "I know - it's like the Dhoom 2 DVD-A ... and that's why I picked it up".

Now this one has music in 5 formats:

-MPL 5.1
-MPL 2.0
-Dolby Digital 5.1
-DTS 5.1
-PCM 2.0

Price Rs. 299/-

Please don't ask me how's the music ..... but the recording is good and looks like the recording company has read my earlier post !!!!

Looks like they have also come out with DVD-A of Ta Ra Rum Pum and a soon coming out with DVD-A of Veer Zara - now that's what I am looking forward to.
