LG Chemical Expected to Rank Second in OLED Evaporation Materials Market

LG Chemical is anticipated to surpass DuPont to become the number two player in the OLED evaporation materials market. According to DSCC’s Bi-Annual AMOLED Materials Report, UDC led the evaporation materials market in 2023, followed by DuPont in second place and LG Chemical in third. However, starting in 2024, LG Chemical is expected to rise to the number two position and maintain this position continuously.

LG Chemical supplies a range of materials, including Red/Green/Blue hosts, ETL and aETL (HBL), to various panel makers. The report highlights that LG Chemical’s aETL has replaced Solus Advanced Materials’ aETL in SDC's latest material structures. Additionally, LG Display is expanding the use of LG Chemical’s products in new OLED structures for various applications. Notably, the p-dopant jointly developed by LG Display and LG Chemical last year is being applied in mobile single/IT tandem structures this year and is expected to be used in WOLED TVs. These developments are anticipated to significantly boost LG Chemical’s revenue in the future.



One of the OLED evaporation materials expected to contribute to LG Chemical's revenue increase is the p-dopant, a key material in OLEDs. Previously, Novaled held a continuous monopoly on this material, but the exclusive position began to break down starting last year. LG Display began using LG Chemical’s p-dopant at the end of last year and started applying it to LG Display’s Tandem structures for IT this year, gradually expanding its application areas. Additionally, it is reported that BOE has applied Summer Sprout’s p-dopant to some of its material structures.



With the introduction of a new tandem structure in IT OLEDs, which began mass production this year, various issues arose, creating opportunities for LG Chemical’s p-dopant to enter the market. OLEDs are expected to continue facing demands for extended lifespan and improved brightness, prompting the development of new materials such as next-generation blue materials. These advancements could significantly change the value chain of the OLED evaporation materials market. Consequently, competition among evaporation material suppliers for new material development and market share expansion is expected to accelerate.

Additionally, the OLED materials report covers the latest OLED structures and suppliers for OLED devices released in 2024, and updates changes in structure and suppliers with each renewal.
