This is my OST Reference CD. Audio i.e. Even for DVD it can be a Videophiles delight.

Have you had a chance to listen to the OST of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon ? That too is superb. I am always confused what I should take between the 2 for a demo / audition to a D/D or friends place.

Truly very nice.

No I have not seen or hear Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. But if you recommend, I will.

Hero is another great test DVD for HT System.

For the OST - I like Love Story & Schindler's List.

No but now that you mention it I am going to get one.

The first track on Gladiator always gives me goose pimples ...!

I would suggest the Thomas Crown Affair if you like Jazz. the first 3 tracks (by Jazz and Nina Simone..forget the third) are really good.

very rarely are OSTs so good !

Dr Saab, I have heard Schindlers list and the music is pretty good. dont own it though..I reckon i should

Hero is a great movie.
Makes one think a lot.
I like it.

The OST I have not heard, but must be on the same lines as CTHD I suppose. Will try and procure it in my next order.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Well depends;
If I buy direct, i.e. from record label, then the order is between 50 & 100 CD's per label.
If it is Amazon or Tower, then I break up the order in lots of 10 to 12 CD's. The customs guys make a racket, that is the only problem I face.

Recently I got some from Linn Records [sacd's] direct from Glasgow & Tacet Records [Germany]. About 125 of them. Still have not finished classifing them - trust me that is a time consuming & long labourious process.

We need to get some person in India that sells Audiophile Labels. I would like to buy. Saves the trouble to importing it from abroad.

How do you save by buying directly from labels?
Can you please give some links.

I did not follow your question, can you please be a bit more ellaborate ?

I generally buy the entire collection of what the labels produce.

Waterlilly Acoustics, Linn Records, Tacet Records, Ma Recordings, Reference Recordings, Telarc, FIM Records, LIM Records, XRCD, etc. There are many more like this.

So when you buy volume, you obviously get better prices.
But it is a risk, all the music is not nice. So you are back to square 1. You pay less, but you buy more & most of it is not good. So it is actually more expensive.

Well, i don't think there are that many reference rock and alternative recordings. Most of them are Jazz and I am still relatively new to this genre and finding out my tastes given the wide array of styles prevalent in this Genre. So far, my preferences have been mostly towards West coast artists.

Guess what?

I'm listening to Madonna - The Immaculate Collection !

Everyone knows about her music but man ! the recording is simply amazing - the sound stage so wide extends to more than 1 meter outside each of the speakers, the imaging so pin-point, vocals so realistic ......

Somewhere I had read that this one is a good recording but I could never imagine so good.

It's worth wasting your money & time on it !!!!

"In Dino" is a mindblowing track! Great music, wonderful lyrics, and sung beautifully by Soham. "Alvida" by KK, and "Baatein..." by Adnan Sami are also excellent.

Overall, a very good album.

Trivia:

Jaane do na uses the tune of Ilayaraja’s Kannada song, ‘Jotheyali jothe jotheyali’ from the 1980 film, ‘Geetha’.

This is one of the most popular song even today in Request Shows on any FM radio channel in Bengaluru!

The title song and Sooni uses Ilayaraja’s tune ‘Mandram vandha’ from Maniratnam’s Tamil film, Mouna Raagam (1986).

Baatein hawa is a reworking of the song, ‘Kuzhaloodhum kannanukku’ from the 1986 Tamil film, ‘Mella thirandhadhu kadhavu’ which had composing credits shared between Ilayaraja and MS Viswanathan.

Well...I feel he's just reworked/re-engineered or whatever you may call it...on his famous, melody dominated compositions to see if this could get him closer to the bollywood audience...I mean he's not tasted success commercially in hindi like the way he has ruled in southern languages, whereas his one time assistant A.R. Rahman did a wonderful croossover from regional to dominate hindi cinema...there may also be a chance that the film director had liked those tunes and wanted Ilayaraja to fit in hindi lyrics...

OM - fusion band, lots of carnatic, folk influences. very nice
Tabula Rasa - VM Bhats SACD - Heard it at an audiophile friends place, woah what bliss.
Prasanna - Shakti Omnipotent - He plays carnatic on his guitar. A BITS pilani topper decided to pursue music at berkeley instead and does wonderful carnatic music on the guitar

Sade - Best of - I can never get enough of this album

Sarah Brightman - Diva - Same on this.

And Djangology - Django Reindhardt - wonderful maverick!

Dido - Life for Rent & No Angel
Fantastic vocals on these two albums. Especially 'see the sun', 'this land is mine', 'no angel', and 'my's lover's gone'.

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Sounds like a dialogue, but Miles' trumpet dominates, sometimes with piercing blasts. Bit inappropriate for the night really! But amazing that one can create melodies with such an otherwise aggressive instrument
'Flamenco sketches' is truly fantastic, even relaxing.

Jagjit Singh - mix
He is one Indian artiste whose voice sets a vocal standard that will rival most international biggies.

Ella & Louis: A mix of melodious vocals and Louis' trumpet

Don Marsh: Instrumental Praise: Relaxing pieces, without any intruding vocals. Very emotional stuff.
