Basically my hi-fi stopped working recently about 6month ago. i have got it to work intermittently through one speaker for a short listening session on 1 or 2 occassions. BUt most of the time there is no putput. I have a denon amp, technics cd player and jpw speakers linked up. I have speculated my amp blew/broke down but after reading about how it's possible to blow your speakers and that you need to balance your impedance and power with your rated am powerage settings if that's correct i'm now none the wiser and am unsure wwhich of my separates are causing the problem- i.e borken down. Which is more likely the problem ?- blowing the speakers perhaps?- they are rated at 70 watts,6 ohms Or perhaps it's my amp that's probably blown/broken down? Any adivce or feedback appreciated. (Also- i have an old 70's denon amp i woul'dnt mind testing out but it takes the old pin connectors , not phono connections. Where could i get an adaptor to stick on the end to convert the old 70's hifi pin connectors to the modern phono ones?- any suppliers out there perhaps? if it was a broken amp i had mentioned previously, this would solve that problem) |

Dear Sam, You may want to determine if your amp and/or speakers have given up the ghost. Does your amp have a headphone socket ? Do you have details of your head unit, is it a...LP player/CD Player/MP3/Tape etc.. ? If you need any help is trouble shooting, do let me know. Regards, Junia. |

my amp does have a headphone socket so i'll give that a try/go and see if i hear anything. it's a cd player, technics slpg5, i think. i reckon it's either the amp or speakers.but i'll get back to you when i've tried the headphone port with some headphones. ta. i'll keep you informed shortly of my findings. |

HI, been a while but... eventually got round to doin what you suggested-trying the headphone socket port out on the denon amp (model pma-250-3 i think) when there was no sound output ordinarily and yes i got output through the headphones. So does this mean or v. likely suggest it's my speakers that have blown/broke down? ...Anyone??? Also I've been looking at speakers to buy thinking this is the likely problem(playing my music too loud one summer) and i need a little guidance on matching wattage and ohms-- perhaps someone could advise me on the basics conerning this subject field.(assuming this is the case and so this does'nt happen again- btw amp says 'power consumption-130 watts?'& 'impedance 4-16ohms speaker system' + speakers say 6ohms,70 watts, 87db) Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't think you matched them wrongly. Sounds alright. |
